Terms of Business

1. Booking and Payment

1.1 A booking is secured by payment of a 25% deposit of the total booking fee amount, as set out in the 'Booking Invitation' email.

1.2 The remaining 75% balance is due two calendar months prior to the check-in date.

1.3 Payment details are the same for both the deposit and the balance and will be provided in the Booking Invitation email.

1.4 Failure to pay the balance by the due date may result in the cancellation of the booking and forfeiture of the deposit. If there is a reason for delay, please get in touch to explain.

2. Cancellation and Rebooking Policy

2.1 If, prior to check-in, it becomes clear that in any period which includes your booked dates, staying at or travelling to The Harpy is not permitted under UK government regulations, or by the government of the country you are travelling from, or for any genuine verifiable reason; including health issues which did not prevent travel at the time of booking, or any other compelling or unavoidable substantive reasons:

  • The full value of any amounts paid (the deposit and/or balance) will be fully transferable and credited against any future booking dates of your choice.
  • Re-bookings can be made at the same price as applied in the year in which the original booking was made for any available dates within 12 months of the original check-in date, adjusted only, if applicable, for seasonal variations within that year; e.g. for a booking cancelled during low season rates in say January is transferred to a high season period, i.e. August, the higher season rate will apply at the same rate as was published for that period at the time the booking was made.
  • Re-bookings for dates more than 12 months after the original booked check-in date will be charged at the published rate applicable at the time the transferred booking is made.

2.2 Other Cancellations:

If cancellation is for any other non-compelling reason; i.e. one of the party decide they don't want to stay:

  • The deposit will be non-refundable.
  • We will re-open and re-market the dates.
  • If the dates are successfully re-let, 75% of the full booking amount will be refunded.

2.3 The aim of this cancellation policy is to discourage last-minute cancellations without compelling reasons, which may leave dates unbooked. In practice, most cancellations have been for unexpected compelling reasons and have been resolved by rebooking. In extreme circumstances, preventing travel at any future date, a full refund will be made.

2.4 If a cancellation is made, please notify us as soon as possible, to maximise the chance of re-letting the dates.

3. House Rules

Payment of a deposit to confirm a booking is deemed to signify acceptance of the House Rules as set out in The Harpy Manual.

4. General

3.1 Full details of The Harpy; directions, transport, arrival and check-in details, what's on board, equipment instructions, house rules etc, are in The Harpy Manual, a PDF of which will have been provided in the Booking Invitation email.

3.2 The Harpy Houseboat reserves the right to amend these terms from time to time, with the current version always available on request or via the website.
